Software escrow — Vienna, since 1998

Your source code,held in trust.Sealed on-chain.

We safely store your software's source code. If the vendor goes out of business, its customers get the code and can keep using the software. Until then, the code stays locked. It is protected with modern encryption and can only be unlocked under the rules of your contract, never by a single person.

Three roles, one contract.

Software escrow aligns interests that would otherwise pull apart.

01Treugeber

Software vendor

You've invested capital and know-how into your software. Escrow lets you answer the customer's natural question — 'what if you're gone tomorrow?' — without handing over the source.

  • Protect your IP
  • Win bigger, longer contracts
  • Close enterprise deals faster
02Treunehmer

Software user

Your business runs on software you didn't write. Escrow guarantees long-term availability of the source and build chain — if your vendor fails, you can keep operating.

  • De-risk your IT investment
  • Continuity guaranteed by contract
  • Auditable release process
03Treuhänder

KRYPTOS

An independent Austrian trustee. We custody the deposit, verify each release, and only release the materials when the contractually agreed release events occur.

  • Neutral third party
  • Verified builds, not just files
  • On-chain release ledger
How it works

A four-step deposit lifecycle.

  1. 01

    Contract

We draft and notarise a tri-partite escrow agreement between you, your counterparty and KRYPTOS — release events, scope, verification level and term, all defined up front.

  2. 02

    Deposit

Source code, build scripts and documentation are encrypted with post-quantum cryptography before storage. We hold only encrypted data, in Vienna with redundant backup at Mount10 in the Swiss Alps.

  3. 03

    Verify & lock

We compile the application and run functional tests against the specification. The key is then locked on the blockchain and can only be released under the conditions defined in your contract.

  4. 04

    Release

The beneficiary reports a release event, such as the vendor's insolvency. An objection period starts. If there is no objection, the deposit is released; if there is, an independent arbiter decides. When in doubt, nothing is released.

The blockchain difference

Traditional escrow asks you to trust the trustee. We let you verify.

With KRYPTOS, no single person can release your source code, including us. The key is locked on a secure blockchain and released only when the conditions of your escrow contract are met. Every step is recorded on-chain and can be checked by all parties.

01
Post-quantum encryption

Your deposit is protected with encryption designed to withstand future quantum computers.

02
Released by contract

A smart contract enforces the release rules agreed in your escrow agreement. No one can bypass them.

03
Objection period & arbiter

A claimed release event opens an objection period. Disputes go to a named arbiter. When in doubt, nothing is released.

04
No code on-chain

Source code and personal data never go on the blockchain.

Use cases

Where software escrow earns its keep.

SaaS01

B2B SaaS continuity

Enterprise buyers want a guarantee that mission-critical SaaS won't disappear in an acquisition or bankruptcy. Escrow unlocks the contract.

Banking02

Banks & insurers

Regulators require continuity plans for outsourced software. We custody source and build chain for core banking, claims and risk systems.

Public sector03

Government & utilities

Long-lived public infrastructure outlives its vendors. Escrow protects multi-decade IT investments without forcing open-source.

Industrial04

Embedded & ICS

Machinery, medical devices and industrial control systems need maintainable firmware long after the original team has moved on.
